I agree DP,
When you visit your home cong far far away from Bethel, they are sooooo proud of their homegrown bethelite... But when you go to your NYC local cong it brings you back to reality that you are just a newboy among about 20 bethelites, some of them heavies... so you realize that you still are a piece of dirt as the org wants you to believe...
I think missionaries have even more power. I mean, I was the PO in a cong of 120 poor souls. Whatever I said was the rules.... They would accept anything I said as if it were the voice of God, after all, I was a personal representative of the WTS. Even of the BOE I had the last word since the other elders always said, you know best, you're the missionary.
I didn't like having that much power and influence over others.... Didn't seem right, and sometimes I felt like a hypocrite since I couldn't maintain the standards any more than other mortals...

Thanks for filling me in... The special talk was my first Sunday I didn't go cuz I became an apostate only 2 weeks ago...
So they are still insisting on 1914.... Such a load of BS..... At some point JW's have to wake up and see it's not the truth....

Recently joined... Just saw this thread....
I saw this at one of my last meetings and I was amazed. Funny thing, a lot of the friends were making fun of it... So it could actually work against the WTS, since some people may actually wake up and see the stupidity...

I met Joseph Rutherford today!!!! Really!!!!
by Awakened at Gilead ini was at a meeting today for my job.
about 30-40 people were there, most (besides me) movers and shakers in the public health field in new york.
as i looked on the list of attendees, one name struck my eye..... joseph rutherford... this led to an interesting experience for me (sorry to use such theocratic sounding terms, i'm such a newbie!!!).

You have an interesting story, so I would love to hear more. Is you wife still a believer?
Yes, JWF, she's a diehard JW. She frequently cites Lyman Swingle, who wanted to die with his boots on. We are discussing separation at the moment... but I'll post that story to the relationships forum soon...
As a JW I felt like an alien everytime I attended work events, and was in fear when work forced me to do networking, as I did not feel I fit in or had anything to talk about.
Yeah, that's exactly my point in my post. I have always felt weird when I had to network at these events, and always limited my conversation to the work at hand so I wouldn't be "associating" with these people. Everyone else seemed to have such great conversational skills, yet I felt like an outsider, but I was happy that way, so I wouldn't be tainted.
Once you're out - you do look at people differently. I mean, you realize that they ARE people.
You're right, ML, this is what I am telling my wife... these are normal people, we have nothing to fear. She's pretty freaked out though....

Also anything to do with 'sex' and men...er... people in general, are all ears. Such accounts make huge impacts on our brains.
Yep, Tinker,
Unfortunately, I still remember all the sordid details of the JC's I was involved with. You can't get that out of your brain. These guys are seriously lying that they don't remember the details. I mean they must have asked all sorts of things to determine if this was uncleannes, loose conduct, or porneia... That's what we were instructed to do...
I'm sorry for the innocent girls who have to suffer all of this...

Well, so I walk up to the man, in his early 50's, and ask him. Any relation to the Judge of the WT? He didn't even know who the Judge was, and he said he steered clear of JW's. And I told him that I agreed with him, that not listening to their craziness is the best policy. What made this interesting to me is that this is the first time I am talking with someone outside of JWD, a worldly person, and telling him not to listen to JW's. A few months ago, I would have been witnessing to him.... Hey, that means I'm making progress, right?
I also notice that exiting JW's is having an effect on my personality. In the past when I would go to such meetings, I woyuld kind of hang out in a corner, not conversing much with others, since they are all worldly. Why should I want to get to know a worldly person, so I thoughht.... Today was different. I felt comfortable talking to all these worldly people. It was great!!!
I'm glad that being an xJW is having a good effect on my personality... Did anyone else feel this way when they left the WTS?

Supe,
Yes it's true. I got into trouble for the same thing in 1994 just cause I sent a few letters with field service experiences to a sister. She fainted when I anounced I had a girlfriend and went running to the elders. They didn't have any scriptures, as I recall, just a load of old WT articles....

Since you passed so many of them, what advice do you give for studying for the CLEP tests? Especially if you've been out a while?
JimmyP, Just get a copy of the latest CLEP guide... see which ones you think you can pass.... Passing is a 50, so it's not that demanding... AaG
